Configure DoH on Firefox

How to hide DNS requests to our provider and to the manager of our local network

DoH, diminutive of DNS-over-HTTPS) is a protocol for performing DNS resolutions from remote via https. Its purpose is not to allow a third party (the provider of our internet network, or the manager of our local network with and without proxy) to intercept our requests online.

For example, if we try to go on a site, no one except us will know on which site we are going at that time.

Firefox natively supports the DoH, but you have to configure it to be able to use it.

  • From Firefox, go to about:config page
  • Click on Accept the risk and continue
  • Search for the keyword network.trr
  • Enter, for the key network.trr.bootstrapAddress
    • 8.8.8.8 value
  • Enter, for the key network.trr.uri
    • https://cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query to use the services of Cloudfare
    • https://dns.google/dns-query to use the services of Google
  • Enter, for the key network.trr.mode
    • 0 to turn off DoH
    • 2 to give priority to the DoH, only in the case where the domain is not terminated, run at the default resolution
    • 3 for browse mode only, DoH. If a domain is not resolved, the web page will not open

Please note that in the case of use of proxy, it cannot intercept requests to a domain that we do, but the exchange of packets will still be visible.
